Hi /r/ Newhaven! I'm going to be moving to your area soon and wanted to meet some people

Hi! I just got accepted for a post bac at Yale starting in June. I know almost no one in Connecticut and have yet to visit so I figured I should go ahead and start talking to people. I'll be doing neuroscience research but not sure with who yet. I'm from athens, Georgia and have lived here my whole life but have done a fair amount of travelling. I love movies, television and books of most types and styles. Currently reading the elegant universe, currently re watching Parks and rec and daredevil, last flick I watched was a drunken attempt at The Babadouk. I am also a big live music fan. Was lucky to see the Marcus King band last night and thoroughly enjoyed them. I currently bartend at a wonderdul establishment. It's a job I really enjoy and am going to miss. I'm pretty outgoing and goofy and love debating. please shoot me a message if you'd like to chat and make a new friend or if you have any advice or information you think a Connecticut noob should know.

Edit: A couple of things I'd like to know:

-Good places to live. I'm not familiar with the area at all and googling images and reviews and such only helps so much. More importantly, what areas should I avoid?

• What should I know about connecticut winters? I've seen snow before but Georgia's relatioinship with snow is rocky to say the least. I don't know if you guys have heard of the term "Snowpocalypse" but in Georgia, it refers to the 4-6 inches of snow we got 2 and 3 years ago that essentially shut down the state. I've seen snow but never driven or functioned in it, so advice in that direction would be greatly appreciated.

• Is there any kind of local paper that lists local events and stuff going on? In Athens we have a free paper called The Flagpole that lists weekly shows, art events, classes, etc organized by type of event and it's really handy. Does New Haven or Yale have anything like that?
