Looking for advice

I've been really interested in oculus for a while, and Im buying one, but there are a few things bothering me:

1- dk2 has been out for a while, is any new version or maybe even other products that I should be aware of?

2- how hard is to set it on games in general?

3- Do I need/should buy any other hardware or software to enjoy it better?

4- anyone using it to work on maya?

Any and all help and tips are welcome.

1 - DK2 is the only real option at the moment for a good experience. (assuming you are not looking at mobile VR eg. GearVR). Please note that the first consumer headsets will hit market in 7 months and that the general consensus here is at this point in time it is best to wait rather than buy a DK2. That being said I love my DK2 and if I had to do it over again I would still buy one now.

2 - Most supported games / demos are as simple as clicking the .exe files. Some of the unsupported games (like alien isolation - a must play in my opinion) require changing some text files and trouble shooting. Anything that works on the DK2 and requires tweaking is generally well documented on the internet / youtibe.

3 - If you want to play unsupported games in VR you will need an injector like vorpx, my personal opinion is that the experience is not worth the money. Depending on what your PC spec is you may need to upgrade.

Supported games vary in quality quite a bit. some of them don't have menus or HUD's, some have driver issues or problems with going on the correct screen. It really depends on how polished a game is. Assetto corsa is considered a supported game and yet there is zero menu support, I hear the same for project cars although I haven't tried it yet. Elite dangerous is about as supported as you will find and even it can be a little tricky to set up when you change from one screen to the other as the image is on your monitor but you have to shine your headset around to see anything on it.

It is still pretty early to get into the VR game, if you are uncomfortable messing about with things to get them working correctly I would advise waiting for a consumer release rather than using a development kit.

1 - Yes, a fuckton of them, but the dk2 is the cheapest one at the moment and the most supported

2 - Supported games are as simple as a click, at most a switch to extended mode is necessary, unsupported ones are not worth the hassle

3 - It depends on what you're looking for, a simple gaming i7 with a single Titan-X or dual 980s is plenty enough to play most games, including GTA V, if you want to try older games just buy the VorpX injector

4 - Yes a few
