Why didn't Ikeda see his own excommunication coming?
The subtitle of his self-aggrandizing, embarrassingly hubristic novelization fantasy of the early years of the Soka Gakkai, "The Human Revolution", is:
Volume (1-6) of the remarkable story of the founding of Soka Gakkai and the phenomenal growth of the Nichiren Shoshu sect of Buddhism. See for yourself
Wowzers, right? Why couldn't someone as supposedly "forward-thinking" as Sensei Daisaku Ikeda, "the world’s foremost authority on Nichiren Buddhism and a spiritual leader for millions worldwide, according to one of his own vanity presses, see this coming?? Now, Ikeda and his minions are busily rewriting history to make it seem that Ikeda never trusted those faithless, money-grubbing priests:
Whenever Soka Gakkai members challenged these attitudes and irresponsible behavior by priests, calling for reform, the priesthood only became more adamant in enforcing the subordination of Soka Gakkai members. The more the Soka Gakkai grew, the more authoritarian and corrupt the priesthood became. Soka Spirit
It appears that they who smelt it dealt it O_O
I believe we have come a long, long way since 1990 when President Ikeda gave us key points of guidance for creating a model organization "for the next 1,000 years." - Tariq Hasan, SGI-USA MD national leader (but not good enough to be the Top Guy, who always has to be Japanese, i.e. Danny Nagashima)
He's referring to Ikeda's Feb. 27, 1990, teleconference, all video evidence of which has been scrubbed from the Internet, where Ikeda was banging on the table like a baboon while poor newly appointed General Director Fred Zaitsu tried to read his very first public address. This was the shameful episode where Mr. Williams was first thrown under the bus, and his under-the-bus-thrown-ness only accelerated from here. That is how Ikeda treats those most loyal to him, should they become too popular. Leaders beware. There will be no sharing of the stage nor spotlight with Ikeda.
So, if Ikeda was looking "1,000 years into the future", why didn't he see his own excommunication from Nichiren Shoshu looming a scant 9 months in the future?
Why didn't Ikeda see it coming in 1980?
From now on, we eternally will revere the successive High Priests as the great teachers of Buddhism. - Ikeda, Seikyo shimbun, April 2, 1980
Nichiren Shoshu has acknowledged that the Soka Gakkai has no intention of providing its sincere written response to our inquiry [concerning Ikeda's slanderous Nov. 16, 1990, speech]. Dai-Nichiren Special Edition, Jan. 25, 1991, p. 49
On Dec. 27, 1990, Nichiren Shoshu called an extraordinary meeting and partially amended existing bylaws. Along with this, Nichiren Shoshu dismissed Ikeda from his position of chief representative of all lay believers (Sokoto) and also dismissed other Gakkai leaders, including Akiya and Morita, from senior lay posts (Daikoto). Furthermore, Tadashichiro Abe, then chairman of the Hokkeko Federation, and Kisoji Yanagisawa, the vice-chairman, also were relieved of their senior lay positions.
Right after this, the Soka Gakkai started to attack Nichiren Shoshu relentlessly, mobilizing all of its members. Source
Why didn't "Sensei" see this coming? Why did "Sensei" allow himself to be excommunicated, clearly a source of great humiliation and fury for Ikeda, who has tried to keep this conflict alive ever since via "Soka Spirit" and demonizing Nichiren Shoshu High Priest Nikken (now retired) as some "devil" nonsense?? It's ridiculous and embarrassing, and this is one of the reasons SGI has a mere 5% retention rate for its converts. Nobody likes a sore loser, and nobody likes listening to someone obsessing over a former partner who has clearly moved on.
On Aug. 11, 1992, Nichiren Shoshu sent an official notice to Ikeda, who did not respond to the previous warning. Finally, he was excommunicated from Nichiren Shoshu.
O_O
The SGI President Daisaku Ikeda envisioned the garden — as a place that will be the prime point of all peace-related and Gakkai activities round the world, a garden where world leaders will gather to work for peace and harmony.
Naturally, Ikeda takes all the credit O_O
President Ikeda’s message on the [Sept. 12, 1993] inauguration foresaw the emergence of Soka Bodhi Tree Garden as a centre of beauty and learning:
So he can "foresee" a garden but not his own excommunication?? I think his foresight is faulty O_O
“I am positive that from among those who will come to visit this garden in the future — when the Bodhi trees that are saplings now have grown tall and robust and are luxuriant with fresh green leaves — there will emerge great leaders. I am also confident that this Bodhi Tree Garden will become a training ground for capable people. It will be a place where leaders from various fields around the world will come to meet in order to cultivate and develop themselves, inspiring and stimulating each other’s growth… We hope that this garden will be the centre of many cultural and educational activities. Let us think of 100 years, 200 years into the future, when huge Bodhi trees growing like a forest will embrace the many thousands who will come to the garden.”
Ikeda obviously CAN'T think into the future. If he had truly been able to, he would not only have foreseen his own future excommunication - and thus avoided praising the clearly slanderous and evil Nichiren Shoshu. It's obvious why the series had to be rewritten as "The NEW Human Revolution", with the original set hopefully forgotten.
