Respect Venom (Flash Thompson): Marvel 616
Eugenene “Flash” Thompson is Peter Parker’s former classmate, childhood bully, and Spider-Man’s biggest fan. After highschool he joined the military and lost his legs saving a friend in Iraq. He is later enlisted into Project Rebirth 2.0 where he bonds with the Venom symbiote that had formerly been bonded to Eddie Brock and Mac Gargan (the Scorpion). Unlike the previous Venom hosts he uses the symbiote for good and has served on the Secret Avengers, the Thunderbolts, and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Affiliations: Avengers, Thunderbolts, Circle of Four, Guardians of the Galaxy, U.S. Army
Enemies: Crime Master, Jack O’Lantern, Human Fly, Eddie Brock
The Symbiote
Flash gains of his powers from the alien Venom symbiote. To keep the villainous Symbiote from gaining too much control over him he initially can only wear it for short periods of time and later keeps it drugged.
-
Becomes stronger when he “venoms-out,” but also more brutal.
-
The symbiote is sentient and discards the bomb planted in the suit by the military
-
The symbiote takes a liking to Flash as a host and will try to return to him if separated. In the past it has taken over both a dog and a gorilla to reach him.
-
The symbiote is able to take over the minds of the U-Foes’ henchmen
-
While the symbiote is in control it easily incapacitates Punisher and Elektra
Strength
The Venom symbiote gives Flash strength comparable to Spider-Man’s.
Durability
Aside from his weakness to heat and sonics the Venom symbiote give Flash durability superior to Spider-Man’s as well as a minor healing factor.
-
It tanks getting slammed into the ground by Spider-Man. Spider-Man still thinks Venom is a villain at this point and believes he has kidnapped one of his friends, so he isn’t holding back.
-
Despite the suit’s weakness to heat he ignores Jack O’ Lantern’s fire-breathing mechas
Shape shifting
The Symbiote grants Flash minor shapeshifting abilities. It can change his appearance, transform into different types of clothing, as well as create blades and combat tentacles.
-
Flash frequently uses the symbiote to change his clothing and appearance: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.
-
While trapped by Jack O’Lantern uses symbiote’s tentacles to fire a tank. Since Flash can’t see inside the tank from where he is, he must able to see through the suit’s tentacles.
-
Can extend his arms (and theoretically other body parts): 1. 2.
-
Creates two other human bodies, capable of speech with the suit
Speed
While Flash doesn’t make use of its speed that frequently, the symbiote give him speed on par with Spider-Man’s.
Skill
Flash has served in the army and is adept with multiple weapons as well as a skilled hand-to-hand combatant.
-
Headshots a bat carrying him. Flash is incredibly weakened at this point, as he’s spent 3 days in the savage land getting hunted by Kraven, and was just hit by a powerful sonic attack.
-
After getting beaten up shoots a bomb on the back of a gargoyle
-
Takes a shot from Black Ant to the face while it’s not protected by the symbiote. Black Ant’s stinger has previously incapacitated both Black Widow and Valkyrie.
-
He and Cletus are surprisingly agile for two guys with no legs
Weaknesses
Unfortunately along with all of the powers it gives him, the Symbiote also comes with a few major weaknesses, mainly sound and fire.
-
He has difficulty controlling the Symbiote when emotional or under extreme duress.
-
The presence of other symbiotes makes it harder for Flash to control his.
-
The symbiote also becomes harder to control in the presence of Spider-Man
-
To prevent the symbiote from bonding with him, at first he only wears it for short periods of time.
-
Hank Pym and Beast eventually create a serum to keep the symbiote docile but it weakens the symbiote, and wears off after 24 hours
