My favorite kind of card. Strong with a very large downside. Woe is the player that plays this on turn 2 and their opponent dumps vomits 4 permanents on the table.

And woe is the player who is trying modern something and casts this vs Storm.

How is this better than tarmogoyf? against fair decks they can just play 2 creatures and wreck you, never mind stone forge get jitte or batterskull and as a storm player I'm begging everyone to play 4 copies of this thing would be amazing.

It is extremely silly to compare any creature that costs 2 against tarmogoyf. Not every card that is designed on this subreddit is designed with modern, legacy, or any particular format in mind. It could just be expressing an idea of a card or showing off a card that is being placed into a custom mtg set.

I also never said it was perfect. I would change a few things about the card to make it more balanced (in my opinion) and not make the player be immediately blown out on the opponents next turn.

Sorry for the tone of my comment. Just immediately thought of holding a grip of storm cards and going off for free the next turn.

It'd be cool if it was global. Maybe even a cool effect on a black white card with rule of law stapled to it to balance it out. Maybe it even says players can't pay mana for spells.

Make you really build around the ability.

Cool concept now that i take another look at it.

Like the other punisher cards, this is not something you play turn 2. You play it towards the end in a deck that threatens to take you out with a few bolts or burn spells

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I very much dislike this area of design for the same reason WotC does (why cards like this aren't printed in recent sets) - swingy and un-fun cards are just that. Not fun.

I actually can't see what's not fun about this card. I get a 5/5 for two, you get your whole hand for free. My only deal with this card is that it should fly.

EDIT: We need one of these -> "/s"

Have you played with Eureka?

Same deal, except this card doesn't give you the upside of Eureka.

[[Eureka]]

EDIT: Holy crap, that's what Eureka does?

Glad you notice hahaha.

Why is that green and not blue?

Try playing with [[channel]] and [[show and tell]] some time.

The comparison falls terribly flat, because the best case scenario for the demon is clearly well defined (a 5/5 trampler for two). The best case scenario for Show and Tell involves the likes of Emrakul or Omniscience: much more devastating than an undercosted French vanilla. Regarding Channel, I don't even know why it features in your post.

Just to make this sure - you do understand Tempting Demon allows only opponents to pay life for their spells, right?

4
_Skylos•

You drop this guy in T2 and pass. Your oponent drops a land and shows you a [[Banefire]]. You lose. He pays 15 life and drops Emrakul. You lose. He pays 19 life and plays Sphinx's revelation an.d draws 17 cards with a total lose of 3 life. You have practically lost. The disadvantage it's just too much to play it.

too late for an "/s" tag?

Oh wow. XP How did I not realize that...

It's not fun because you expect it to be strong but instead it's a terrible disaster and you lose.

It's fun for my opponent, that's my point. I should have put a /s tag on it.

Storm would like to have a work with you. Plus it's just a 5/5 for 2 mana I get. 4/5 with no downside that I can splash in blue decks

/s.

I don't personally find it swingy or unfun and I think it's interesting design space. With cards like thoughtseize, the downside can be heavily mitigated or weighed, generally making it less swingy. I can see that criticism of it, though; sometimes your opponent will just combo out from it.

It often gives your opponent options. As I find the "fun" of magic to be found within player decisions, this is not unfun to me.

I love this card. It's amazing in every way IMO

Way too powerful for BB.

E: I read that wrong way too weak for BB, it needs haste and flying.
