Good luck with it. Some say that the 88 is one of the best years. It's past the brittle wiring harness's and before it gets to complicated. Brickboard.com has a great FAQ section for 740 and 940's. Lucky for us 240's owners they are basically the same vehicle.

Thanks, it seems like there are a ton of great resources in the Volvo community and so far it is about 100X easier to work on than my BMW, so I'm enjoying it.

Just picked up this '88 240 wagon yesterday. Excited to fix her up and be a member of the community.

It's the 4-speed auto. The OD is currently not working (i think it needs a new solenoid) so that's on my list of projects as well as fixing the A/C.
