very cool
This is nice to see. Usually Swiss news reports involving asylum seekers mainly seem to consist of middle class people howling about how the sky is falling, with the country set to be a scorched wasteland just weeks from now and the apocalypse being financed entirely out of their tax money.
That's a really nice thing. I think it presents a great opportunity for better integration as well as a better environment to learn the local language.
I'll get downvoted by horde of anti-fascist & hippies, but I strongly disagree with this. They have to stay in their country and build + developp it instead of coming here. All this immigration have only a goal, get rid of the white people by assimilating them.

I mean, it's fine to have a discussion about how much immigration is appropriate and how to steer it.
But you can't seriously think that all the guys in Eritrea, Somalia, Sri Lanka etc. are sitting down and plotting to get rid of white Swiss people.
No, it is the other way around.

And the Bürgliche Sumpf, the pink-greens and the non-voters-everythings-fine cooperates blindly.
Before you start writing such bullshit at least learn the difference between asylum and immigration.
You sound quite butt hurt about this
Dream on boy. Facepalmed would describe it much better.
well sorry for you, but I'm pretty proud about being a nationalist and I do understand what is the difference between immigrant and asylum seeker. I also understand that most asylum seeker never went back home after the war was over in their country.
I agree with you, but this subreddit is full of left wings, they want the whole world to come live in Switzerland.
I know you are probably just some troll, but I just wanted to ask that you consider what it must be like coming from a country like Eritrea. First of all, the bloody border conflicts in Eritrea are a direct result of the way the land was divided after WWII. But, that is just one instance in the region's long history of getting screwed over by European countries and that legacy of European/Western interference has continued up until the modern era. They have a history of guys with mysterious financial backing coming in, enlisting all the able bodied men, and forcing them to fight over resources that they'll never see. There's just no resisting that kind of power. Now, this may be debatable, but I believe that the Swiss should feel a little bit of sympathy for refugees from African conflicts considering how much the banks in this country have profited from them. The economic prosperity in Switzerland has unfortunately been partially at the expense of impoverished Africans. So if you feel so strongly that these guys should develop their own country, you should do what you can to prevent the Swiss banking industry from screwing them over all the time instead of passively whining about it.

If we are going to start this kind of self-flagellation I want to see France and UK as first in line.
Well, it is no surprise that they are two of the top three countries for refugees in Europe. The top country is, of course, all-time leading self-flagellation champion, Germany.
Per capita, germany is ahead of france and the UK, sure. but top of the charts? Sweden. By far.
And we look pretty good in this comparison as well (2d), but as very small country this is a little easier.
The economic prosperity in Switzerland has unfortunately been partially at the expense of impoverished Africans.
So?
That is the usual Whitewashing nonsense when somebody from the Global North talks about Africa, like Africa being a country. No thanks. Mugabe was farther away than Eritrea to us. Kongo is farther away. Anywhere riches were amassed was farther away.
The Italians and the Brits (as usual) did it. They should pay. Maybe the Ticino could take in some dozens :D

This sounds rather interesting, do you have any pointers for me where I can read more about this (how swiss banks profited from africa etc)? I so far am unfortunately only aware of the questionable stuff the IMF does.
Also: I think that we should have empathy & sympathy for others purely for the reason that they too are humans. Seems like reason enough to me.
I'm not a troll, sorry. What I say is what I think about it. And it's just a very brief resume about what I really think on this subject.
I understand that their country isn't going well at all. But if you keep escaping when stuff go wrong, you never learn to adapt and get better. Same goes for them.
Europe didn't construct itself over a night. It took time and effort over centuries to get to the level we've today. And why is it so? Because people fought for their land, their families, their country/kingdom. They didn't escaped to another place where it was easier.
I don't understand the mentality of "give to the others but not to our people". There are plenty of swiss born people struggling every month to feed their child, pay a rent, etc, but we (our authorities) keep giving millions of CHF to migrant.
And if you come about people using African as slave, meatshield or whatever, why should I feel ashamed about it? It's not my problem, as I'm definitely not involved into this. And to be honnest, when the Europeans went to Africa 3 or 4 centuries ago, africans hadn't discovered how to forge metal, they were living like we did at stone age. So we gave them tool, we explained them a lot, improved their life a lot compared to what they had.
They didn't escaped to another place where it was easier.
Actually they did, and it became the Land of Freedom (and Oil)
Afaik, lots of them were prisonners looking for a new life, or rich people. They weren't running away from wars.
They didn't escaped to another place where it was easier.
Sure they did. For example, people emigrated to the USA.
when the Europeans went to Africa 3 or 4 centuries ago, africans hadn't discovered how to forge metal, they were living like we did at stone age
whoa, you seriously think that? It's a big continent with many cultures in various stages of development and some of them were pretty damn sophisticated.
There was nothing in the USA other than a few civilisation (Inca/amerindian/maya to name them). No road, no home, nothing but nature.
Oh sure, they were so sophisticated that they ended up being slave, huh? They had build some stuff, and in some region, they knew of to smelt metal, but they didn't have the same level of technology as European had.
Look-up history of Indo-European people, where they went, what they discovered, also look up about genetics and haplotypes, gene flow etc. Here lies a lot of replies about the evolutions of races
These aren't economic migrants, they're refugees whose life has been judged (by the notoriously anti-immigration Swiss authorities) to be specifically in danger if they return to their home country. You fundamentally misunderstand migration and asylum.
And why should they in all case come to Europe? Can't they go to Israel, Arabi Saudi or any rich mid-east country?
But, you are involved in this more than you think.
In the 80s, before Eritrea's independence, $315 million was deposited into Swiss bank accounts with HSBC. No one knows how much could have been deposited in UBS or Credit Suisse accounts. Back then $315 million would have been something like 4 or 5 years worth of GDP. The only people who could have possibly amassed this much money were the rulers of the country. In the following 15-20 years of conflict another $400 million would be deposited into HSBC. Again, several years worth of their GDP.
These people are being heavily exploited. How can they build anything up when such a huge amount of their resources end up in Swiss bank accounts?
Back then $315 million would have been something like 4 or 5 years worth of GDP.
I can only find inflation adjusted figures and they give 1980 GDP of eritrea as ~2.8 billion USD and 1989 GDP as ~5.6 billion.
Now 314 mil. in 1980 dollars is roughly 900 mil. today - I don't think it's 3 or 4 years of GDP but rather about a third of a year. It is for sure a big sum compared to GDP.
And it is also a completely unconfirmed sum - not that I want to suggest that there is no eritrean black money in swiss banks, just that this sum is dubious.
I'm not involved in this. I don't trust the authorities of my country, nor the bank and the capitalistic system who's pro EU/US. So how can someone make me responsible of this?
It's the media who want to make us feel responsible, us, europeans, of every conflict, every war, every problem in the world, but I don't feel so. I don't trust the media because they aren't impartial at all. They are just a muppet, hold be governement.
You'll maybe call me a complotist, or whatever, it's up to you. But I've seen and read enough to have my own opinion about what's going on, and what will soon happend here
This is really heart-warming. At the moment this program is only in Vaud, Aargau, and Bern. It would be great to see it in Geneva, Basel, and Zurich.
How would it possibly work in Geneva? They literally have no space there as they're renting out closets as rooms.
