Questions about car performance upgrades

DISCUSSION

What does every car upgrade actually do? For example, what is the difference between the engine upgrade and the transmission upgrade? Which upgrades should you prioritize?

Also, is it always a good idea to upgrade a car as much as possible if you can afford it? Or could the car actually get worse or more difficult to drive if you upgrade it "too much"?

When you highlight each upgrade it will show you what it improves on the stat bars, for example a spoiler will improve traction. However don't pay too much attention to the bars beyond which ones are affected as they are essentially useless beyond that.

If you can afford it it's worth upgrading fully, there's no such thing as "too upgraded". If you're in online and you haven't unlocked all of the performance parts (via race wins) then if you're looking to save money you could put off buying upgrades until you've unlocked the top tier ones for each type.

According to this video upgrading the transmission and so on also improves the top speed of the car, not just acceleration. Not much, but still does.

As for "prioritisin" upgrades every upgrade is good for you, but I can see turbo upgrade gives the most bang for buck. Also get a spoiler for increased traction.

Yes.

No. Well, in one aspect it CAN get worse. If YOU cannot handle a faster car as a driver then it CAN kind of be a worse car for you. The only cure for that is to get better as a driver.

A fully upgraded Zentorno for an example. It has massive acceleration and top speed when fully upgraded. But it has super low suspension and not too great handling so if you drive over a curb too fast or if you take a corner too fast youre going to either slam to a wall or spin out.

Okay, thanks for the answer.

I'm toying with the concept of lowered suspension increasing instability over bumps i.e. curbs. It might just be me though but I'm sure ground clearance has an effect on off-road courses and in my experience affects my racing too.

In addition to the transmission engine and turbo upgrades it's worth buying off-road tyres for race cars. There is no change in traction (turning) speed or acceleration however they reduce the effect of bumps on trajectory. So you can clip curbs on the apex of a bend without experiencing spin outs so much.

I've heard this before. Is there no downside to off-road tires at all? Because if so, what's the point of all the other tires?

No downside that I can find except the aesthetics, they look stupid on my Turismo but I've got better lap times with them in trials.

Edit : You should check out this video and the uploaders other videos. Boys got skills and is very informative.

Edit Edit : I've noticed that Kenraali has pointed you in the direction of broughy too. Just goes to show how respected he is!
