❀◕ ‿ ◕❀ June Bowel Cancer Awareness Month

Hello everyone!

This month's series is based on Bowel Cancer Awareness Month. The cancer awareness ribbon is blue coloured, and as blue coloured shinies have already been given away for the cancer series, I decided to do a different theme. I looked up pokemon types, and picked something blue in colour - water. So all the pokemon in this series will be water pokemon!

My grandmother was recently diagnosed with Bowel cancer, for the second time in her life. As such, this month is especially close to me, even though my grandmother's situation is extremely optimistic due to early detection (A great reason to raise awareness!). My schedule will be quite hectic this month because she goes into hospital on the 4th, so please bare with me if I change giveaway times without notice, or can not get to everyone on the megathread in a timely manner

Bowel (or Colorectal) cancer is considered the 3rd most common cancer, with around 1.36 million people diagnosed in just 2012. It is more common in men than women

Possible risk factors include age, inherited genetic risk, obesity and smoking. The most common symptoms are tiredness, weight loss and unexplained anaemia. As with all cancers early detection is important, and regular colonoscopies are recommended for the elderly. A more recent screening process is also available, which is non-invasive.

Treatment depends on what stage the cancer has progressed to. Usually the cancers are removed through an operation, but more severe cases can lead to needing chemotherapy. Reoccurance is common with bowel cancer, so it is important for patients to continue getting regular colonoscopies and screenings to ensure the cancer does not return.
