Looking for some in deciding when to upgrade.

Hardware

Hey guys, So I built my current PC at the end of 2012 I believe, and currently I am still able to run all of the games I normally play on ultra high settings (Dota 2, Skyrim, Fallout, Battlefield 4, etc.). I am worried however, what my system will do with any new games to come. Anyways, my current specs are as follows...

  • CPU- Intel Core i5-3470 @ 3.20 GHz (4 CPUs)
  • Memory- 16 MB DDR3
  • GPU- NVIDIA GeForce GTX650 1GB
  • Motherboard- Asus

Thanks for your help everyone. Let me know if you need

I really hope you mean 16GB instead of 16MB for the RAM.

Anyways, your CPU is really good, RAM is really good, but I'd highly recommend upgrading your GPU quite soon. Aside from the 1GB bottleneck in new/upcoming games, that card is going to struggle in the future.

Do you have an estimated budget for a new video card?

Yes I did mean GB, my bad, and I don't really have a set budget for it, probably less than or right around $200

I'd go for a GTX 960 or a R9 280 for that price range. Just make sure you have a power supply that can hold that up.

I currently have a 600 Watt power supply, I have to go back and look but I think that at the time it was just enough to supply what I have. And overall it's been great, but if I do need a new one are there any brands you suggest or keep away from? Thanks for your help.

No problem.

A 600w should do you well for most of all graphics cards, but obviously make sure it has the proper pins available, typically 6pins are needed, but for some cards they'll need two, or even one 6+2pin and an additional 6pin.

Typically just look at reviews before buying, there are some brands that are more common than others but just take a look at the reviews prior to purchasing one if you do sometime in the future.
