Which total war is this?
Napoleon TTW
Oh thanks. I didn't get around to play Napoleon or Shogun 2. I played a bunch of Medieval 2 and was surprised with the ship combat.
Honestly, ship battles seem so epic. Have only experienced Empire and Rome II. Nothing like watching a Trireme ram into a ship and break it in two.
Not as satisfying as watching a 1st-rate firing off a broadside with a perfect hit and enjoy the enemy's flagship explode, though!
Shogun 2: FoTS' ship battles are something I had a lot of fun with. They're a bit different than the other games', though, because the ships move under their own propulsion.
I've just reinstalled Shogun 2 after about a year; do the enemy ships still wait for you to come to them?
I need to play some Napoleon again. Taking the time to learn proper ship battle is so rewarding, both in terms of result and fun.
Do you have a mod installed for the ship icons to be so small and include morale/health?
Micromanaging all them ships man... I have trouble with ship combat most of the time.
I auto resolve all naval battles that aren't absolutely one sided because I know the AI will give me a higher chance of winning.
"Never mind the maneuvers, just go straight at them"
"Some would argue not a great seaman. But a great leader...."
"To Lord Nelson!"
Love that movie.
If you like the period you should definitely consider the book series. It's a bit heavy-worded / naval-jargony at times, but still arguably the best naval historical fiction ever written.
Yeah man, I've read just under half of them. They're a bit heavy-going but so worth it.
"Do you see those two weavels, doctor? Which would you choose?"
"One must always choose the lesser of two weevils."
"In war the simplest maneuvers are the best"
Yeah, I generally win land battles even if the bar only gives me 1/3 chance, and I'll generally lose naval battles with 2/3 chance.
the only ship naval tactic I can play is choose range ships and drive away from the enemey while attacking them until I run out of ammo...
I always try to split my ships into squadrons of 2-3 in empire and napoleon. Makes ti much easier to manage all the firepower, without resorting to a standard line.
