Complaint about GearVR app submission process
Hey folks,
Recently, I tried submitting my VR Reader app from the Mobile VR Jam onto the GearVR store. Obviously, it was rejected (otherwise I wouldn't be posting here). I have no issues with that, it clearly wasn't ready for prime-time, but the issue I have is the complete lack of feedback I've received as to why that is.
For the last two weeks, I've been trying to get info as to why the app got rejected. To start with, I was told that the text was one of the many issues, so I fixed it and resubmitted.
Next, I was told that in order to fix the app, it would require large structural and design changes. Ok, that's fair enough, this concept clearly won't work in VR at the moment as it currently is. What elements didn't work?
"We're not going to tell you"
Try as I might, this is the answer I've been receiving for the last week and a half. Despite repeatedly being told that the app requires huge changes, I still have no idea what's ACTUALLY wrong with the app that I built.
I've been told that the lack of information is because they don't want me to waste time doing development work to have it knocked back again. I'm at the point now of just wanting to abandon the app and use any feedback to avoid making mistakes in any future VR apps I develop, but even still, I can't get any information.
Frankly, I find this to be unprofessional as hell on Oculus' part.
I'd love to keep developing for the GearVR, and even have a couple of projects that I'm working on, but I'm unsure of whether I should continue them if the only information I'm going to receive is "No, you didn't get it right".
How am I supposed to avoid those mistakes in any other VR apps I build? Should I spend months developing something else, only for the same unknown issue to pop up and have the app rejected again with no explanation? If you want the developer community to create high-quality VR apps, you NEED to let them know what's wrong with their current apps so that their future ones can be better.
Oculus, please provide better feedback to your devs. I don't care if there's huge glaring holes in my VR app that make it unsuitable for submission, but it's important that I know what is causing those holes.
