[Social] Where do you guys work? If you don't what do you want to do?

I just got laid off from Starbucks, because I broke half of the equipment. Yeah. So now I work at Nordstrom. I'm in college though, double majoring in Computer Science and Education. So my question to you guys is, where do you work, and if not, what do you want to do?

Edit: I know this isn't Monstercat related, but there's nothing bad about social threads.

Edit 2: I know about the grammatical mistake in the title. Don't mention it.

Currently I'm homeless, but that's okay because I've been practicing the art of Mongolian Throat Singing.

I hear that makes good money bro, definitely continue with that.

Yeah, once I make it big time I'm gonna be living large.

Just graduated from high school and will be studying physics in uni in September, being a producer would be a nice life though..

Fun Fact: Physics is the only class I have ever failed. Good luck, and love your music.

2

Haha I took it through high school, was always my favourite. It will be fine! ^_^

3
RedzaDSHaywyre•

yee man, physics was my second favourite class, first was maths. they just were logical. biology sucked because you had to memorize the parts of an ant.

wait uni as in university of northern Iowa

no uni as in university

MotchboxRezonate•

I coach tennis.

More importantly, how the fuck did you break half the equipment at Starbucks

6
HesitantSlowbroOPEden•

I'm ridiculously clumsy. I spilled stuff on things, and knocked stuff over. Thee's like 4 main machines, and I broke two of them.

Edit: I'm also making a dollar more an hour here, so I should have quit a while ago.

6
MotchboxRezonate•

Maybe it was your fate all along to break the machines

I feel bad for you man. McDonalds sucks. I'm on my fourth job, and I can honestly say that working in food and retail sucks.

6
ZephyruSOfficialProtostar•

I've never been to a Panera before but I was supposed to go there on a date recently. Can I just ask how expensive it is there? I feel like it's probably a pretty expensive place :P

1
christopantzDotEXE•

id say the prices are in the same ballpark as sandwich places like jimmy johns or potbelly (if youre in chicago). we've got a very extensive menu though, lots of good salads, some really good sandwiches (bacon turkey bravo is probably my all-time favorite), lots of really good soups, pastries, and people tend to like our mac and cheese a lot too. pricewise i dont really know how to compare it. its a step or two above mcdonalds both in price and quality, in fact we're currently working on getting all perservatives and all that bad unhealthy stuff out of our food, so youre getting good stuff at a good price.

2
ZephyruSOfficialProtostar•

I've never been to Jimmy John's or potbelly either :P. I get what you're saying though, thank you!

1

I went to chicago once and potbelly was fucking bomb

High school student in a dramatic arts program, Grade 10 RCM piano student and hoping to get my ARCT in piano performance, and digital artist. I'm good at way too many things and high school's hardly over, so I have a lot of options. I could go with the sciences and mathematics, or something that appeals to the artist and writer in me.

Currently, I have a summer volunteer position in graphic design for an arts initiative in my city. They do some great work, and I painted a mural for them last summer.

4
HesitantSlowbroOPEden•

Sounds like me in high school. Don't let drugs and relationships fuck you over as they did to me. You have a bright future.

3
2ndKeeperVarien•

Drugs, probably not. Relationships? Yeah, I'm in the process of sorting that out: they got majorly messed up this month. But thanks for the advice and for making this thread. Best of luck.

1
HesitantSlowbroOPEden•

Yeah. I had an awesome relationship that ended and screwed up my first year of college, and i smoked too much dope my senior year to even care. I'm doing well now though.

I just got out of high-school. Taking a 6 month break before going into college/foundation for uni. I don't have a job. I'm basically doing nothing for 6 months, which to me, seems really annoying. Anyway, my ambitions are really weird. Ever since I was a child, I never knew what I wanted to be. I never knew what to eat, and what place to go to. I'm the indecisive type of person, because frankly, I don't care. I have no preference. My opinions are not strong enough for me to express them to you. So yeah, I don't know what I want to study, or what I want to be. All I know are the subjects I hate. Economics, Biology, and basically all the memorising shit. Maybe I'm just not interested in them. Anyway, I couldn't be a doctor, because my biology is crap, and I couldn't be an accountant, because I didn't even take accountancy. My parents wanted me to be an engineer, so I'll probably just do that, but I'm still unsure.

As much as I want music to be a part of my life/job, I don't think it can. I don't have motivation inside of me to risk my life, to so music. I'm a realist, and there are SO many producers out there. only about 0.01% probably get successful, and that's most likely the truth. Do I love music? Yes. Is it the only thing I can do and the only thing I would love to do? No. I would still enjoy a job without music entirely. So there is NO way that I'm going to be a producer full time. I will most likely have to sacrifice my music production time during college/uni, because I really want to get the best grades I can, and my 'hobby' is going to stop me from achieving my goals. My hope is to improve on my music in this 6 months and hopefully get an opportunity to so something with it (record labels, cough cough).

So yes, I do not know what I am going to be, and I just realised that I'm in a life crisis. Thanks.

4
FearediZHigh Maintenance•

Dear lord never stop making music, I love it way to much for you to stop now.

2
RedzaDSHaywyre•

Haha thanks for listening to my life story. Yeah, I'm not too sure about music. I have a lot of people who truly enjoy my work, which is great, but I have to think in the long run. I reach high, most of the time, and I want the best for me. I don't want 7/10, I want 10/10, all the time. Will I be Skrillex? No. I know it won't be easy, but I know that some people just have that internal drive and talent to produce. Haywyre, for example, is a perfect example. He had the motivation to learn jazz piano, after his parents enrolled him for classical training. He WANTED it, so he went for it. He then took years of production to get where he is now. To be honest, that's the story for most producers. Years of practice. I've been producing for 4 years, and currently, it's not worth my time. I have invested so much of my time to it, but it's not returning much back. I don't expect millions of fans, or millions of dollars, just based on the 5 shitty songs I posted on SoundCloud, but you get what I mean. During these few months, I will probably work more in the business side (I took that too in high school), and get to know the ropes of the music industry.

Thank you so much for supporting me and my music, and in return, I will try my best to do as much as I can in these few months.

2
FearediZHigh Maintenance•

I get what you mean man, just don't pull an Ephixa and fall of the face of the music planet. Also if you need some help with some business aspects, I took multiple courses in high school, and planning to major in it at uni.

1
MRShockwaveMusicMuzzy•

Sounds to me you're more of a perfectonist than a realist.

1
RedzaDSHaywyre•

lol maybe. now that I think of it, you're probably right

1
MRShockwaveMusicMuzzy•

Watch this video on how to make a living as a producer, you don't exactly have to "make it big". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjUI2xRR-sc

1
RedzaDSHaywyre•

Haha I'll spend an hour watching this and his 'Making It' video, and I'll report back with my thoughts. Thanks! :)

1
MRShockwaveMusicMuzzy•

You're welcome. :)

1
RedzaDSHaywyre•

I just finished the videos. I think I'm going to start streaming Music Production on Twitch more, because there really isn't a good, scheduled, and frequent streamer who makes music on Twitch. The supply is low, so the more I establish myself, the more the demand increases! Yay!

1
HesitantSlowbroOPEden•

:( Your music is awesome man, I hope some label picks you up so you can be on your way to stardom. I believe in you.

1

I want to get to the point in my music career where I can produce professionally and full-time, but that'll never happen

You should be glad you have Publix. They're my favorite supermarket, and I'd have to drive like 500 miles to get to one. Our supermarkets up north aren't as clean.

2
TheCarWashChannelProtostar•

IKR, the customer service is amazing there.

2
HesitantSlowbroOPEden•

Ok, storytime. When I was 13 I was going to Disney with my family, and I walked into a Publix for the first time, and I was amazed by how beautiful they were (I was weird as hell). Anyway, we were at Epcot a few days later, and I faked getting sick, so I could go to Publix with my dad and get medication. Never forget.

I worked in a deli, just left today. For my job if I don't get good at producing, I wanna work somewhere with computers as I am going into Computer Engineering.

3
HesitantSlowbroOPEden•

You and I both. Have you seen the salaries for those jobs? I don't care if it's boring, I like that paycheck.

1
TheLordOfSmugHaywyre•

I left because they had me mainly for 3 to midnight plus an hour or two overtime. Everything past like 8pm is cleaning. Ovens, slicers, dishes, fryers, etc. I can't deal with staying up that late CLEANING EVERYTHING.

I just started a job as a counselor at a summer camp, s'fun. It's my first real job too, so now I can actually buy stuff lol

2
HesitantSlowbroOPEden•

Do you get to leave sometimes? I was offered a similar position, but those are some damn long hours. I know the pay is pretty good...

1
mastalukedjheroGrabbitz•

They say you need to notify them a week in advance if you have to take a day off. If you don't show up or notify them, you're fired.

Also, it's five and a half hours (unless you stay for aftercare), with an hour lunch, but you get to play games with the kids so it's not too bad.

1
HesitantSlowbroOPEden•

Sounds like a nice gig.

I'm a student and I have no idea what I want to do when I grow up. In terms of grades, I'm pretty much a jack of all trades.

I don't work yet but I'm training for my summer job of looking after kids at a Catholic summer camp. Feel free to ask me questions about this if you are at least respectful about it.

As for what I dream of doing, well, I don't know yet. So far I've thought of Engineering (aeronautical, software, and mechanical all interest me), but haven't thought much further than that (4 years 'till University for me, so there's time).

2
HesitantSlowbroOPEden•

I used to go to a Christian summer camp...where is your camp at?
