Last Friday, I got a deep cut across my right palm. A dog was trying to eat my cat, and I got cut by her while getting her away from the dog. After taking her to the vet to get checked out, I went to the ER. Since its an animal wound they wouldn't stitch it closed, so they put a dressing on it and wrapped my hand up like a boxing glove to keep me from reopening/stretching it while it healed. It's scabbed over now, though still a little swollen. However, when I took the dressing off, and since then, I've noticed partial numbness in the area of the palm above the cut, and in between my middle & ring fingers, particularly on the inside of the latter. There's still some sensitivity to touch, but the area feels deadened, like it's partially asleep. I can still fully extend my fingers and make a fist, though it takes effort to get my ring finger to fully close.
My question(s): I'm fairly sure this is nerve damage from the cut, but I don't know how serious an issue it is.

Is it something that's likely to resolve on its own as the scab is dissolved and the inflammation goes down?

If not, what should my next step be? Specifically, is this something a GP could handle, or is it likely to require a hand surgeon/other specialist to deal with? I'm on my mom's insurance which isn't super great, so I'd rather not make any superfluous appts, though I'll do whatever I need to do to get it fixed (mainly don't want to end up paying for an office visit just to get referred to someone else).
Thanks for reading, and for any advice you might have.

Hand surgeon should evaluate sooner than later for possible repair. The nerve has probably been cut. I don't know the efficacy of doing surgery in the smaller hand nerves. You'll eventually need at Emg performed by a neurologist some 2-4 weeks after the injury to evaluate the extent of the nerve damage. But they won't be able to do much at that point, either it will heal or it won't.
