Lazy Bitcoin'ers (HODL'ers) who haven't been paying attention to hard fork debate and just think it will work out. Simple questions.
I hold a small amount of Bitcoin (enough to make me worry) but I have been in/out of these forums in a not so serious way "glazey eyed" watching events unfold but not fully absorbing whats going on. (I am a lazy hodl'er)
From the posts I read today, it looks like (5 year old version)
If we go with 8mb block size we get:
-
Binaries for XT will NOT be available on Bitcoin.org anymore but some new website
-
Mike Hearn will have GIT source code owner access rights and Gavin would have a step lower admin rights. This bigblock version would be on a completely different repository.
If we dont go with 8mb, everything stays the same except maintained by Blockstream developers. Random people that download Bitcoin would be getting this version.
Is this how it is?
I would like to know the opinion of maybe some people who have real skin in the game.
Paging u/Evoorhees if you have a second
Paging u/andreasma if you have a second
Getting the viewpoints of people that have been in the space for a long time would help me/us immensely.
I have been/am in the 8mb/21mb camp since the debate started, but I am very worried if Bitcoin.org doesnt host this new version. So many will be running full nodes for the 1mb version, the new version would never be bootstrapped properly it just becomes a mess. At best it becomes 2 different coins. The 1mbers would have all the full nodes they need (people who downloaded Bitcoin@Bitcoin.org (Google 1st hit) + miners who are hedging. 8mbers would have full nodes (maybe even not as many!) and prob overtake 1mb camp in mining. Just a mess.
Edit: I've learned a lot here. Thanks to all that contributed.
