A case study: The plan to quit working
I've been formulating my plan in my head for the past month. The mind of an entrepreneur can be a horrible thing at times. I'm to the point of not needing/wanting the boredom and stupidity of my current job. It's time to build something again. I've been planning and building a business over the past few months for a market in Hawaii. Most of it is the design, development and marketing for the service that will be offered.
This is how things are looking financially. I do have a car note and I do have student loans. Other then that (now that my home has sold/will sell) the remainder will be general bills (I have 0 credit card debt, an American with no credit card debt?)
Financial plan: Savings goal: $40,000 (roughly 1.5 years of living expenses for target market, a little less if you take out the moving expense) Current savings: $31,000 (End of July 2015)
Without a mortgage and no credit card payments my forecasts for saving are in the ball park of $3,000 stashed away per month.
I have a local business (to where I live currently) humming along making me about $1,000/mo throughout the year. I can funnel this for initial funds to get the Hawaiian business off the ground to start. The plan for this business is to move to a commercial retail space, and continue to run and be ran by someone in training right now.
Living plan: As you know there is a huge ocean between the mainland US and Hawaii. I'll need to ship my vehicle and equipment which will end up costing me about $3-4,000 all said and done. When I arrive, I plan to take a whole week to completely re-focus and relax.
Rent is expensive, however, it's the cost of living in paradise.
Moving date/quit date: Between end of October 2015 thru December 2015 or January 2016 (there are a few things in limbo here regarding stock shares, need to get an answer before I make a final decision.)
Business plan: Offer a local service to residents of Hawaii utilizing direct marketing, internet marketing, and door-to-door flyering. I won't go into much detail just yet. I've had time the past few weeks at work to read 3 direct marketing books. :) I see an opportunity to provide excellent service and make it a bit easier for the customer. Stay tuned.
I've been performing the service that I will be offering in Hawaii, locally to the tune of $2,000 for the current month (first month), I have about $1,000 in the queue of work to perform still. My initial $1,000 investment came back plus $1,000. It feels awesome knowing that I can essentially mint money.
TL:DR; Moving to Hawaii to start a business with $40,000 in living expenses saved. Revenue goals of $10,000/mo, living the Aloha lifestyle.
