How can i ensure images load before displaying in browser?

Often I am left with a white box, leading me to refresh, somewhat several times before i get the image to show whilst others beside it load completely fine, I have no problem with it displaying stuff but sometimes it seems to just hang on loading certain images and because a little irritating when searching through ebay ect.

I am using Google Chrome, and I have enabled, and tried disabling the option "prefetch resources to make a webpage load quickly"
