Something I would like to discuss.
I recently started watching SVTFOE and since episode 1 I have been hooked by the overall style and humor of the show. Immediately I compared this show to "My Life as a Teenage Robot" as it dealt with a female character with a plethora of abilities trying to adapt to Earth and its human culture. Moreover both shows have a male lead who I consider to be an "everyman", or the person the audience most relates to and considers normal.
Although both series seem similar, it is obvious that SVTFOE takes a much different direction. For example, Star is much more energetic and animated than XJ9 and Marco is more capable in fighting off villains than Brad ever was. However, something that I see that is lacking in this SVTFOE that MLAATR had is the inclusion of multiple protagonists and three dimensional characters.
Shows such as MLAATR and Kim Possible often featured more characters besides the two main male and female leads. The Former had Miss Wakeman, Tucker, and Sheldon. The latter featured Wade, Rufus, and Dr Drakken and Shego (both of which had major character developments in the series). All these characters contributed greatly towards the success of their respective show. After 9 episodes, or 18 depending how you see it, only two characters have been developed, Star and Marco. Romantic interests Oskar and Jackie have both stayed one-dimensional even after appearing multiple times in the series up to now. Furthermore, Marco's family and friends who have appeared many times in the series have stayed their one-dimensional selves (although Alfonso might be interesting considering he may be Pixie King).
Ultimately my point is that this show has many great episodes featuring our main characters. Episodes like Mewberty, Cheer up Star and Blood Moon Ball have greatly expanded the relationship that these two characters, Star and Marco, have. However, the amount of character development that these two characters have received up to Episode 9 heavily outweigh any other character's development in the show.
My area of serious discussion is: -Is it still too early to judge the direction of this show or do you believe that later episodes could have the potential bring up side characters to higher relevance? -Do we want to see more character development from other characters or are we content with the status quo since the show should mainly stay centered around developing the relationship between Star and Marco? Lastly, one question for creative discussion. -What do you imagine would be the plot of certain episodes to develop a certain character in the show (Janna, Ludo, Oskar etc...)?
