[PC] - ESO FPS Stutter / Poor performance.

Fellow ESO players,

I am a relatively new player compared to most of you. I've had the game for about three weeks and am currently a VR4. I'm thoroughly enjoying the game, however I have been experiencing performance issues since the very first few minutes playing this game. With the term 'performance issues' I am referring to either FPS stutter or a (slight) FPS drop every once in a while. Even though I probably shouldn't be complaining since I can run the game fine for the most part, it does aggravate me a lot.

I am by no means an expert when it comes to the hardware/software of a computer, but people keep telling me I should be able to run this game without any issues. And considering Nvidia Geforce Experience is recommending me to play on a mix of high and ultra, I believe they're right. These are some of my specs: i5 2310k 2.9 Ghz, Asus Geforce GTX 660, 8GB DDR3 1866Mhz.

I've approached this problem from different angles and tried solving it in different ways, but so far I haven't gotten extremely lucky. There are numerous people reporting these problems, but I thought: why not ask the Reddit community for their opinion, nothing ventured, nothing gained eh?

Now, apparently this game is poorly optimized. It seems to run better on DUO cores than Quad/Hexa/Octa-cores, but it still boggles my mind how some people are getting no performance issues (even with Quad/Hexa/Octa) when others are drowning in them.

I have also considered the possibility of these problems being caused by my internet, but my internet has never caused me any problems playing online games, so that seemed unlikely. I have a consistent ping ranging from 60 to a 100 and a download speed of around 20 to 30 Mbps.

Is it time to play the waiting game and hope they'll fix this in the near future or can we take matters into our own hands here? I am open to any tips and/or recommendations since I've tried pretty much anything and ran out of ideas. Thank you in advance.

I remain,

  • In Ctrl

PS: I ran on Windows 8.1, now updated to Windows 10 (which is much better!), but the ESO problem persists.
