[advice]Tank setup, first lotl
I'm gathering items to set up my first axolotl tank and I'm super excited. I just want any advice or tips so I don't waste time/money or stress out a new axolotl.
I'm getting a juvenile, so I'm starting him off in a 10 gallon. I'm starting to cycle next weekend and I plan on using a slate bottom. Is there a safe way to wash the slate before putting it on the bottom so I don't get any unsafe particles or chips floating? Obviously shouldn't use soap, right?
As far as hides and decorations I plan on getting two terra cotta pots to make into caves, possibly a pvc tunnel, and some marimo balls. What are other low light, low temp friendly plants(that don't root) that you use?
The tank will be in my basement level living room, no close windows, in a pretty large book shelf, the room typically stays at 73*f so I think it should be fine.
As far as filters what is the best low output, yet effective one?
Any advice or tips would be so helpful, I'm really excited to start this!
