Thin scratch on car. I got a pain pen from dealer. What's the proper steps in applying it?
So I've got a scratch on a door handle of my car that's about 3-4 inches long and it's deep enough that I can touch and feel the scratch (but not too deep). It's also pretty thin, like if you were to take a pen and write a line on a piece of paper...it's the same width as that, maybe even less. I got a paint pen from the dealer (has paint on one end and clear coat on other end) and now I'm just wondering what are the steps I should take to "fix" the scratch? Is it simply just:
-
Wash the scratch and area around it
-
Apply the paint. The width of the pen-tip is easily bigger then the width of the scratch though. Should I put some of the paint on like cardboard and use something thinner (such as toothpick) to apply it onto the scratch?
-
Wait for it to dry
-
Apply clear coat
I know it'll never look as if the scratch was never there, but is it possible that since it's thin, that it'll actually just look better leaving it as is rather then trying to fix it and having a slight bulge from the new paint that's also bound to be wider than the scratch? My car is grey if that matters and you likely won't notice the scratch unless you're specifically looking for it.
Cheers,
Edward
