I moved to a new city and now my runs suck. How do you rediscover your running mojo?
So, pretty much what the title says. I moved from NYC to Seattle about a year ago. In NYC, I used to run 4-6 times and 18-24 miles a week. I wasn't the fast by any measure but I was consistent. I ran along the waterfront, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Prospect Park, Carroll Gardens, and even sometimes over the Brooklyn Bridge for my long runs. I used to enjoy every single moment of it. Even the miserable runs were amazing!
Then I moved to Seattle (downtown) and my running form completely collapsed. I did not take a break and tried to keep up the mileage but my runs sucked ass. Every step felt like a struggle and I was no longer feeling good at the end of them. 4-5 times a week went down to 1-2 times and barely 10 miles a week and then I completely stopped and haven't had a decent run in over 6 months now. I tried various locations - down by the waterfront, all over downtown, around Lake Union, around Queen Anne - but I just can't seem to get my running mojo back.
I'd discovered running at a point in my life when everything seemed to go downhill and running helped give me confidence to push through and make something constructive of the worst aspects of my life. I treasured each moment of it - all the days of knees and ankles being so sore that I could barely walk, all the sweating and run-walking and the walk-walking, the muscle pulls and cramps, all the runners high in the long runs, the early mornings and the late nights, the runs in torrential rains and knee-deep snow - I loved every moment of it and I don't know how to re-discover that any more.
So, I come to you r/running, you showed me the way when I was starting out and I hope you can help me again. What do I do now? Has anyone else gone through this? How do you recover?
