Recommendations for affordable vet care?

I currently take my pup to Live Oak to see Dr. Bryan. He is a straight shooter, and I am in and out in 15 minutes. I enjoy his practice, however I believe his prices are a bit steep. The examination fee alone is $40, where I believe other places charge closer to $30...Who do you take your pets to? What are the typical prices? My Stormy has some skin/allergy issues (we think it's a flea bite allergy), and usually a steroid shot and a round of pills help manage her itchiness. I live close to downtown, but have heard that Old Northeast Vet is also very pricey.
