Food Trucks in Hobart
So the HCC approved 11 food trucks to operate at 21 vendor zones throughout Hobart for 12 months. Most seem to be around the CBD, but extend as far as the Springs, Mt Nelson and Lower Sandy Bay.
I've tried a few of these and wondered what others thought of the quality, price etc?
In my experience the food quality ranged from "good" to "not great". However they don't represent value for money. Given they operate out of a van they would have have the benefit of going to the people and operate on lower overheads than a brick and mortar shop. This should mean lower prices. I'm yet to try most of these so we'll see if this is the case for all.
As for what I've had:
Taco Taco: Their menu varies often. I've had a variety of tacos several times, thinking they'll be better but always disappoint. They are very tasty however they are very small tacos. 2 bites and they are gone. After 3 at $5 each I'm still hungry and broke.
Van Demon's Cafe de Wheels: They have beef and chicken burgers as well as pulled pork rolls and chicken salad. $12 for a burger with chips. Burgers are 'okay'. They lack flavour. No bacon or cheese and the sauce is a chilli sauce that soaks into the bun and has hardly any flavour. Overall underwhelming.
Have any of you guys tried the other vans? Let us all know what you think! :)
