I'm considering offering a mini-server to clients who don't want a diskstation. Need opinions on possible hardware configuration.

I'm trying to build an alternative system for clients who need file server capabilities but either don't want a DiskStation for some reason or who also have other server needs a DS can't do (Windows AD, etc). It needs to use server-grade hardware and be as reliable as possible. This is about as compact / inexpensive as I can find without going into SBC-level gear with Non-ECC memory, but it still seems quite expensive, I can buy a pre-built HP for this cost.
