How do you take care of ganks/co-opers?

I'm curious to know how the rest of the community takes care of multiple targets in an invasion. Since I mainly use very duelist type weapons, I try and lock down the host before his phantoms do too much damage. I've seen people take a much less aggressive approach where they use the environment and enemy mobs to their advantage, or just outright killing everyone. I'm curious to see how other people handle those situations.
