Has anyone ever heard of a Non-Compete Clause for something that is simple as an IT Help Desk position ?

Had a nice job lined up and was informed if I accepted it, I would be under a non-compete clause for two years after termination meaning I would be restricted from working with other companies in the IT field for two years.

Have you folks heard of anything that vague or widespread for such a "small" town as Eugene? I ended up passing up on the contract as that would have ended up cutting the ankles out from under me for future income for two years.
