Is Windows 10 Defender good enough for virus and malware?

Hi, I'm using ESET now and it serves me well, but going to expire within a week. Have read that Windows 10 Defender is good enough.

Can it protect from malware website?

Also, seeing as it doesn't have Scan option in context menu, is it strong enough to prevent virus infection from local source like friend's Thumb Drive?
