[Mod-Post] Secondary Hobbit Claims and Time Dilation!

Hobbit Claims

In the varied and sometimes dangerous world of Middle Earth, there is always one place that remains a beacon of happiness and simple joys. I’m speaking, of course, of the Shire. While it may sometimes seem quaint, there’s enjoyment to be found in the rolling hills and burbling creeks where the halflings make their home. With the spirit of such in mind, we’ve decided to add Hobbit Secondary Claims.

Each player, in addition to whatever else they might be playing, may claim a single hobbit in the Shire. Unlike other character claims, however, hobbits don’t have any gifts or negative traits, and simply pick two skills from the list of [hobbit skills, found here] (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PVP9oj4eO3B6hlz3nqa6TNl4uQOZSuhdH_Kka0nFofs/edit#gid=1007694597) (examples include smoking, gardening, and brewing ale). If you wish to claim a hobbit secondary claim, comment it below using the following format (essentially the same as claiming a normal character).

  • Name:

  • Age:

  • Year Born:

  • Gender:

  • Eye Color:

  • Hair Color:

  • Skills:

  • Home Area:

Hobbit characters will be kept track of on a separate wiki page, [found here] (https://www.reddit.com/r/lordoftheringsrp/wiki/shire). For those of you already claimed as a Hobbit, you’re welcome to have a non-hobbit claim as well now if you wish.

If your hobbit claim is your main claim, before now or after, you can still use the normal skills/gifts/negative traits that other characters use.

Time Dilation

From now on, instead of the previous 7:1 ratio of in game time to real time, it will be about 4:1 instead. This means that each week of real life will be approximately equal to one month in the game. Slowing down time like this allows more stories to take their time in building up as the users see fit, and having one month per week will also make it much easier to sort what month of the year events happened in the game. This will be particularly useful on Mondays when, starting this coming Monday, a “News Post” will go up. The News Post will be a summary of major events that happened the last month (or week in real life), with links to the posts and comments where those events occurred. Over time, these news day posts will all be kept on a timeline wiki page, where players can click on a month to see what things happened that month. It will be both a great way to keep track of what’s going on without having to read every post, and just a cool method to see the broad range of areas and characters we all write about.
