An open letter to disc golf video commentators: Stop talking so much please.

The title pretty much sums it up. I am going to refrain from naming names, but the advice applies to a number of people in the disc golf community who are creating content recently.

First, let me say thanks. I love watching disc golf on youtube. My friends do. The better cameras, increase in quality, quantity of footage over the past two years has been great. Thanks!

But please, stop talking so much. It is brutal and has gotten to the point where a number of videos have to be watched with the sound muted and I just play my own music.

I am not watching the videos for you. I am watching it for the players. You don't need to make an unfunny half-joke every 10 seconds, only to be artificially laughed at by your co-commentator. It is brutal.

If you watch professional golf coverage, they are not talking nonstop. They are not making the same lame half-jokes every 2 holes and not making the same banalities at every given opportunity. Because the coverage is about the players playing the game.

When Paul Mcbeth makes a routine 100 foot upshot and leaves it 10 feet from the hole, don't marvel and say for the 50th time "how good is this guy?!" ..... "hehe he is just a little good hehe"....."hehehe good one yep". It is terrible.

Also you don't have to just repeat the golfers name every single shot. Yeah, that's Nate Sexton, there he is. I don't need to hear 'Nate Sexton' literally 60 times a broadcast before every shot. It is sloppy and unprofessional.

I don't need to hear "oooooooo!" every single putt that doesn't go in. Just like i don't need to hear 'great putt' when someone taps in a 15 footer. No one wants to hear that.

Basically you all who are talking nonstop (and you know who you are), need to be using about 20% of the total words during a commentary broadcast, and cutting out the banal comments, bad jokes, and cringe-laughter at each other's awful jokes.

Granted when you have a pro guest commenting, i want to hear him talk. Because he has insight and is going to be at least interesting on some level. But even then, the chuckle-monkeys are usually talking too much in these cases and not letting the pro talk which is frustrating.

I am not alone in my feelings on this. Everyone in my circle of friends that likes to watch disc golf coverage thinks a number of the content creators are brutal and need to keep their talking to a minimum.

Two friends who are just beginning to play felt the same way and said it was unwatchable. That isn't too good for growing the sport I don't think.

In conclusion, if you are making disc golf content and doing commentary, please take the above criticism into consideration, and shut the fuck up and let me enjoy watching disc golf.
