Going from Emperor to Immortal, how can I improve my game?

So, after some time spent playing on emperor, I've come to the phase in which in every game I end up ~7 techs in front of every AI (even though I still can't do domination), and now I'm wanting to go up the difficulty ladder, anything I should be aware of?
