Trading strategy (name a price or not?)

I've noticed that both in game and on reddit people use two different strategies when looking to buy/sell something. Some say they're buying/selling at a given price while others don't name a price and ask potential buyers/sellers to make an offer or negotiate.

What method do you prefer? And for people who used both, what are the advantages and disadvantages of both methods?
