No GC controllers in Tournament Mode

I choose my character with the Game Cube controller and I enter the SandBag room and practice using the GC controller, but when the actual match happens it will only let me use the game pad. I tried using the game pad in the sand bag room but it wouldn't work, so whats up bruh???
