Something I never got about the MLB Trade Deadline...

Why do people HAVE to either buy or sell. We're a pretty middle of the road team, and have the potential to be more than that if some guys like Cash/Kemp/Meyers etc can get back into solid form, like they've shown the last few weeks. We basically have 3 solid contributors as FA's next year, and from what i've heard, aren't worried about carrying a larger salary. We resign one or two of those guys (and we have the guys to replace some of them, like Jankowski for Venable) and we're almost the same team going into next year or at the very worst we lose Upton, we'll get a 1st round pick in return. We should get a SS, but we can do that whenever, not like a trade now is going to be any different than during the offseason.

So why do we really need to buy pieces or sell pieces, when we have a relatively young, solid core of a team coming back for next year?
