how do I get rid of this virus (idiot's guide pls)?

I managed to get a rather annoying virus on my macbook pro. It could be from torrenting ... I keep getting pop ups that tell me to "call this number" to fix virus. When I try to quit google chrome it wont let me and the only way to successfully shut it down is holding the power button. How can I fix this? Thank you!
