New subreddit rule in regards to low-effort posts seeking essentially free consulting.
If you check the sidebar, you may notice the new rule (now listed at #2):
Do not submit low-effort posts essentially requesting free consulting (eg. "please give me your ideas for my company's new logo")
This should be fairly self explanatory and r/graphic_design employs a similar rule, but I wanted to make sure people are now aware of it and that they understand the reasoning.
This has been instated in response to a lot of posts we've been receiving lately where someone will ask for ideas for their company/organization's logo without any evidence of their having worked on the problem at all themselves while often providing very little to no background information on the company/organization.
It's not even clear a lot of the time if the people asking are designers themselves or even involved in the actual design process, but in either case, they are essentially soliciting what amounts to free consulting while putting in the very least amount of effort possible. Frankly, it's lazy and it's also not what this subreddit is intended for.
Starting today, those posts will be removed. If you are worried that a post you're thinking about making falls into this category, please feel free to message either me directly or the moderators and we can provide you with some guidance on the matter, but I have a feeling that anybody honestly concerned about posting within the spirit of this subreddit won't run into any problems in the first place.
I'll leave this post stickied for a little while and if anyone has any comments, suggestions, or complaints on this matter they may be aired here in this thread or with me via PM.
Cheers.
