How does your lab productivity change when your PI is out of town?

My boss does a decent amount of traveling, 3-5 trips/year lasting upwards of a week and I find that on those weeks that they're out of town, while I may leave lab an hour or so sooner than usual, I am so much more productive and efficient.

I was curious if anyone else experiences this and what your thoughts were on if there is any validity to it, or maybe just the absence decrease in of stress is making me feel better about my progress?
