Since when do people think we like to be treated like crap?

I feel like all over television are episodes of sitcoms where kids mistreat girls for attention, everywhere on the internet we talk about how nice guys finish last, and even in person we see way too many guys trying to put on the image of being insensitive and cold to turn on all girls within a 3 mile radius. My question is, where did this come from? Nobody I know in real life would ever get aroused by an insult. Do I just live in a bubble? If not, where did this notion come from?

I'd also be interested to hear what you all think about sexual dominance / submissiveness and BDSM... I've heard a lot of people say it's okay because it's in the bedroom, but to be honest I'm sort of of the opinion that even if pleasurable, the notion that women like to be dominated / hit is kind of toxic to our world along the same vein of what I was talking about above.
