God vs No God

So I think everything boils down to this ultimately. Bear with me because this isn't a topic that gets brought up here often. It seems most of us are here because we have an extremely strong moral compass. We see injustice, manipulation, extortion and we are outraged. Most people are aware that these things are going on but they do nothing. I think it comes down to the way they view life.

The mainstream viewpoint is based on the notion that life is nothing special, it is simply a chance reaction that came about in the universe. The is nothing greater than the material world and the way things are are largely by chance. By this viewpoint there is no inherent value to life, it simply is a phenomenon. "Living" creatures behave as biological computers (very complex ones). The world is harsh and unforgiving and life is simply a scramble to survive. The strong survive and even thrive while the weak die and suffer. Moral values are just a byproduct of human evolution and therefore are something to be overcome by the strong. With this mentality, it is no wonder people commit atrocities and it is easy to justify the inequality of the world.

On the other hand, God is real and life has meaning and purpose. For the purposes of this argument let's just say that there is something greater than the material world, perhaps simply a oneness of all things and higher spirituality but just SOMETHING bigger. This would imply that our problems are mostly self inflicted or designed to teach us a lesson or part of a battle of the greater good vs the greater evil. Or SOMETHING. It is not just a random cluster-fuck for survival on a planet that happens to support life. In this case, the world systems are inherently evil and objectively bad and most people are complicit in this grand scheme.

Given these two general trains of thought, the only logical way to live your life is based upon the second train- that God or deities or something higher exists and there is a true difference between good and evil. The reason is because if this is not true, it doesn't matter what you do, the sun will burn out and existence is brief and meaningless. By all means you don't technically exist, you are just a phenomenon of groupings of atoms so if you choose to live your life based on "good" and good is just a figment of our imaginations then it doesn't matter. Existence is equally meaningless to all. But if you choose not to live good and that is what you were supposed to do then you have squandered the precious gift of life that you were given.
