Nintendo 3DS and lazy eye

Does anyone that suffers from amblyopia (lazy eye) have experience using a 3DS? Do the 3D effects still work for you, and have you noticed any improvement?

I've seen some research showing some uses of 3D technology improving vision in ambylopia, but I wasn't sure if the 3DS would be one of those beneficial technologies, or if it would even work with my eyes.

I have a nephew with autism and we play together on the Wii U, but he's mentioned a few times about wanting me to get a 3DS to play with him as well, but I'm not sure how it'll work since one of my eyes is quite poorer than the other. I'd hate to spend money on it just to have it be wonky, but he's been quite insistent on it since I'm about the only person he has to play with.

Any advice or personal experience?
