Sharing and Developing Ideas
The city of Panyu was always at the forefront of trade and commerce between the Middle Kingdom and its partners, from the far north to beyond the south. All kinds of goods came through the city, from beautiful textiles to flowing spices, and it was the hub that the realms of Zhaya and Lulei relied on for their immense wealths, that poured into the Yanji and swept across all of the Middle Kingdom.
In Panyu, ships and sailors mingled more than any kind of peoples. At one time it was the capital city of a dynasty of the realm, and now it was the trade center - the scholars and generals had moved on, and been replaced by something so different, and perhaps, so much better. Though ships from Kuiqin and Kkongcho weren't all that common, ships from Kyushu and Shikoku were, and they were evidence that Nippon was faring well - Toy-Ota had a production capability unlike anything else outside of the Middle Kingdom. It was interesting.
From the south, Javatrasia and Kāimíng had trade, though the latter was being far superseded by the former. Some ships even came from as far as the ancient lands of Seilon and Xiyan, though they did tend to focus more on the ports of Javatrasia, where all could cross together in shorter distances. But still, there were enough ships coming in and leaving through Panyu, that the city was able to let ideas merge, in more ways than one.
Many sailors in Panyu had come to quite admire some of the designs of the ships of Nippon and Javatrasia. So much so, in fact, that they'd attempted to copy the designs, to incorporate the bowsprits and fore-and-aft rigs so commonly seen in the docking ships.
