[Serious] People of Iraq, is leaving in the country better than what it was in Saddam's era?

I've been watching a lot of documentaries and movies over how much of a sadist Saddam and his family (especially sons) were.

The era of Saddam is regarded as one of the worst eras in human history, however there are many Iraqis on various forums who feel Iraq was better off during Sadam's era of dictatorship.

All I wanna know is, is it peaceful to live in Iraq now? Are there any political parties that exert unnecessary power? Lastly, is there equality in the country?
