[Opinion] The new Gauntlet: Slayers Edition game is... not great

I picked up Gauntlet: Slayers Edition last night and played with 3 of my friends for several hours. Here is my impression:

It is extremely repetitive, and not in the classic gauntlet sense. The enemies are pretty much all the same, the boss battles are lacking and there is no uniqueness to it.

The old gauntlet games at least had you go to different maps and had cool powers and characters that you could unlock. This new game is just you clicking on maps and running around for 10 minutes or less per level. No flashy finishing moves, no story line, just mindless killing. Even the levels weren't challenging. It was very linear and had little to no maze/ puzzle aspect to it.

I was really bummed out about not being able to unlock other characters. Who doesn't want to play as Red Minotaur ?

There is nothing to collect except gold. No rune-stones to help story progression, no power ups bar some potions; it just doesn't feel the same.

If you are looking for a decent co-op game to play with friends, save yourself the $20 and just download Lara Croft Temple of Osiris for free (this month). At least that game is somewhat challenging.
