Negotiate a higher raise BEFORE applying to a new job in the company?
I recently found out that I will be getting a 2.7% raise this year, which is lower than the 5% I have received in the past. My company has been going through layoffs and restructuring lately so this could be a driver.
My question is - should I endeavor to negotiate a higher raise if I plan to apply to a new position in a different group paying approx $15k more? I don't want to frustrate HR and my mgr by negotiating my current salary just to leave in a few weeks and negotiate a whole new one. However, if I don't get this new position then I'll be stuck with the measly 2.7% raise.
I appreciate any insight or comments!
