Christchurch vs Wellington

Hello :)

My husband and I want to emigrate to give our baby a better future.

I've got a friend in Christchurch so I've been focusing on Christchurch since ideally we'd have some help. Though my husband asked me "why not Wellington or somewhere else?"

So my question is where would be ideal to raise a family? Christchurch or Wellington (or somewhere else completely)? What are the differences and similarities?
