Cheated on my boyfriend, needing advice for the both of us.
Kind of a long story, but me and my boyfriend are needing unbiased opinions about our situation.
I am 20 and female, my boyfriend is 22.
On Saturday night (8/8) I was celebrating my birthday with friends from high school. We went to a restaurant and had drinks, and after, we continued to go to one of their houses after and continue to drink and celebrate. At the restaurant I had already had way too much to drink and should have known to stop, however I didn't. The last thing I remember is drinking a beer at the friend's home right when we arrived there, and everything after that is blank and I have no memory. The next morning I woke up and got a ride home and went on with my day.
Later on, my roommate and best friend messaged me asking if I cheated on my boyfriend because someone told her that I hooked up with someone else. At first I was shocked, not knowing that anything that happened was true. I hooked up with someone I had met that same night that was in town with one of my friends.
Distraught and confused I had no idea what to do. I knew I had to tell my boyfriend but he is out of town and I wanted to do it in person to make things a little easier. I am completely head over heels in love with my boyfriend and never had any intention of doing this, nor did I make a conscious decision to do this. Like I said, I did not even find out that this happened until my best friend told me the next day.
I waited until yesterday (3 days after it happened) to tell my boyfriend because I couldn't keep it from him any longer and try to act normal until he was home from his vacation. He suggested reporting a rape considering I was not consciously making a decision and giving anyone consent to have sex with me. I feel that getting the law, family, and friends involved is a huge decision and I do not know if I am ready to go through with that, but that is the only way he will believe this was not intentional.
As I said before, I love my boyfriend more than life itself and would do anything to salvage our relationship. I planned on spending the rest of my life with him, but now that this is happening I don't know what is going to happen next.
There is no excuse for cheating while intoxicated, however if I ever drink that heavily there is at least something I remember. But in this case, I cant even bring myself to picture anything happening or remember anything that went on that night. I woke up feeling like nothing happened and I just had too much to drink. Later to find out, all this happened.
As I also said before I would have never consciously made a decision to cheat on my boyfriend, but it is hard to convince him after we have had some trust issues in the past.
Does anyone have advice for me, or him, regarding this issue?
Thanks.
