[pics][SV]Keto and lupus. Down 27 lbs! From 27.9 BMI to 23.8! Feeling sexy and healthy.
Sorry for long story
I'm 5'2.5 (yes, point-five), F/25 years old. Started out around 150, down to 123 thanks to keto and calorie-counting!
I was diagnosed with lupus in Jan 2014 after having been in incredible amounts of pain for almost an entire year. I got tossed around from specialist to specialist before they knew exactly what it was. The pain made it difficult to walk, lift my arms, lay down. I couldn't dress myself without crying out in pain or a part of my body going numb/aching. Simple things like sitting/washing dishes/showering/even sleeping became a painful task. I was depressed. Doctor's thought it was arthritis and certain stiff joints but the medication didn't alleviate the pain. I felt helpless, I couldn't imagine going the rest of my life like this. My wonderful boyfriend stuck by me and helped any way he could. His support and his ability to make me laugh kept my heart and my head strong even if my body wasn't (yeah I love him and will carry his offspring one day). Eventually doctors figured out it was lupus and gave me Prednisone and Plaquinol. By that time, I had already gained about 15 lbs from being mostly sedentary and prednisone is known for helping pack on the pounds. It made me hungry ALL the time, I ended up putting on another 10 lbs and struggled to keep it off. But I figured a good trade off for the pain going away was a bit of extra weight. By May of 2014, most of the pain had gone away and my doctor confirmed that I was in remission!!! I was finally able to do all those little things we normally take for granted. My happiness and quality of life had skyrocketed. I got a really good job that I am proud of in July 2014, and I could ride my bike again! Everything was coming up Millhouse!
Fast forward 1 year: My desk job did not help me lose weight but I was able to maintain it instead of putting more weight on (I cook a lot at home and only ever eat out if it's sushi, also I've probably had like 4 total cans of pop since I was 16). I was about 150 lbs at this time and I hated feeling sluggish and even though I wasn't in pain anymore the lupus made me tired almost all day. I hated myself for being able to move my body like a normal person yet I still just did nothing. I sat at my desk-job, I sat on the computer at home, I used to be the energetic spontaneous person of the group. How could I possibly have gone through that terrible year of pain and then not go dance out on the streets shouting to everyone that I'm mobile again? I thought I should start running, join classes, go hiking, screw my boyfriend all day long; just generally use my body to it's full capacity, yet, I didn't. I was tired all the time. I knew I needed to gain energy and the prednisone was no longer helping me. So with my Doctor's help and guidance I increased my water intake and cut out the chocolate bars/comfort food and medication. The pounds slowly came off and I really noticed a difference once I started using myfitnesspal but my energy problem hadn't improve much.
I got to about 131 lbs before I discovered keto and it changed my life. I finally don't feel tired all the time. The lack of carbs have given me more energy than I remember having in the last 2 years and it helped my skin clear up from the butterfly rashes caused by lupus. I finally feel sexy again.
Before at about 142lbs, I don't have any full body shots of my 150 lbs life: http://imgur.com/3k3Woth & http://imgur.com/UhLW4vP

All that progress is little to no exercise. I will be joining a gym on Thursday to help tone and grow my muscles. I will be powerful again.
TL;DR Gained weight from not being able to move around much with lupus;took care of myself, discovered keto, I'm hot.
EDIT: you guys are amazing. I feel so much love, I'm overwhelmed right now. Seriously, wow. Here's to kicking obesity and chronic pain in it's ass cheers (carb free alcohol of course!)
