Would Charlotte be as over if she wasn't a Flair?
To preface, I've seen some of Charlotte's NXT work and I do believe she's a very talented performer. I personally don't think she outshines Becky Lynch of Sasha Bans in any way, but she seems to be getting MUCH more of a reaction from the announcers and the crowd (save for the "We want Sasha" chant this week), and the only reason I can think of is that they won't shut up about her being Ric's daughter, and that her repertoire contains a lot of Flair-isms.
It's not unusual for a 2nd/3rd generation superstar to use some of the iconic family names to get over, but it feels like it's happening so much more with Charlotte than it does with The Usos, Randy Orton, or even Roman Reigns. It feels like they're really using Ric to get her over, rather than letting her get over on her own.
I don't feel like this was the case on NXT at all, but it's really the aspect of the Diva's revolution that I don't enjoy - we have RIC FLAIR'S DAUGHTER CHARLOTTE WHO WAS BRED FOR THIS BUSINESS WOO SHE CALLS IT FIGURE EIGHT AN HOMAGE TO HER FATHER RIC FLAIR WHO MUST BE SO PROUD OF HIS DAUGHTER CHARLOTTE WOO oh, and paige and becky lynch are here too.
It kind of irks me how they seem to be really trying to sell her as an individual in the midst of a new-performers-arriving-as-part-of-a-team storyline. And I feel like, despite being NXT Women's Champ, Sasha isn't getting that much hype, and Becky is getting none at all. Does anyone else feel like this is the case?
