Saltstack extra return error

I'm receiving this error salt.loaded.int.returner.local_cache][ERROR ][11254] An extra return was detected]

when attempting to have the reactor auto run my highstate. manually running commands works just fine, but this issue crops up.

I'm already blown out the cache but the I can't see to nail down where this issue is occuring using salt 2015.5.0 (Lithium) on both master and minions
