How do you add essential oils in your beard balm mix?

As the title says, how do you go on about it? Myself i mix the carrier oils and the essential oils together in a small cup, and adding them all together when the beeswax, shea, cocoa has melted together nicely. I have noted that if im too slow they wont mix together well, the oils and the butters/wax so it needs to be somewhat hot. I might do it wrong so i'm asking other beard balm makers, how do you do it for best results and without losing too much of the fagrance?
